Physiotherapy

What is it?

After a brief survey on my graduation day I write down several ways to define physiotherapy:

  • It is the art of teaching people to take care of themselves.
  • It is a way to help people and have fun in the process.
  • It is a way of approaching people knowledge about body, health, movement and function so that they can access a better quality of life.
  • It’s a way to connect with myself, connect with the other person and get the person to connect with herself.
  • A way of life that makes us more human.
  • For me, physiotherapy is passion.

That is, physiotherapy is a great way to help people connect with themselves, with what happens to them, to give them tools and knowledge to empower and improve their quality of life. It is a process of mutual trust that brings us closer and humanizes us. And physiotherapy is so broad: it covers the treatment of the human being in all ages and life processes, from pregnancy, childbirth, adolescence, adulthood, old age, preparation to death. Different areas: sports, prevention, primary care, hospital care, school and leisure. And acting in different systems: cardiorespiratory, neurological, musculoskeletal, neuroimmunologic.

The knowledge that includes physiotherapy is inexhaustible, like any science, does not stop developing, of expanding. Therefore, the physiotherapist’s humility is essential to understand that, as long as he knows, he never knows enough, he can always continue to learn both the articles and the scientific evidence as well as each of his patients.

Then, there are two types of physiotherapists: Those who believe they know and stop studying, are recognized because they lost their passion and complained often. Those who are never satisfied with what they know, continue to explore, read, sometimes they give classes to “pay” their studies … and among them, there are the big ones, who, being older, learn, and continue to study even after 65 years.

I hope you can find more and more those of the second group.
