Physiotherapy

What is it?

After a brief survey on my graduation day I wrote down several ways to define physiotherapy:

  • The art of teaching people to take care of themselves.
  • A way to help people, and have fun in the process.
  • A way of teaching people about their body, health, movement and function, so that they can access a better quality of life.
  • It’s a way to connect with myself, connect with another person and get the person to connect with themselves.
  • A way of life that makes us more human.
  • For me, physiotherapy is my passion.

In other words, physiotherapy is a great way to help people connect with themselves, with every situation they face, and to give them tools and knowledge to empower and improve their quality of life. It is a process of mutual trust that brings us closer and humanizes us. Physiotherapy is beneficial for a broad range of people. It can treat all ages and life stages. From in-utero, birth, adolescence, adulthood, pregnancy, old age, and the final years of life. It can treat across different areas: sports rehabilitation, injury prevention, primary care, hospital care, school and leisure. And it acts on different systems: cardiorespiratory, neurological, musculoskeletal, and neuroimmune.

Physiotherapy expertise is inexhaustible, like any science, it does not stop developing, or expanding. Therefore, the physiotherapist’s humility is essential. As long as they know, they never know enough, they can continue to learn through new publications and scientific evidence as well as with each of their patients.

There are two types of physiotherapists: Those who believe they have all the knowledge and stop studying, are known for  losing their passion and complaining often. Those who are never satisfied with what they know, continue to explore, read, teach, and sometimes even continue the learning process, after turning 65.

I hope you can find more and more from the second group.
